UNIVERSIDAD DE BELGRANO

Application Deadlines: See this page

Language Requirement: None. This program is open to any level of Spanish. To take electives in Spanish, a minimum level is required as described below. Courses are taught in English or Spanish.

Additional Requirements: 2.5 GPA. For additional requirements, refer to the Eligibility section here.

Final Transcript: Issued by Universidad de Belgrano

PROGRAM DESCRIPTION

  • 14-20 semester credits for Semester Only / 18-28 semester credits for Semester + Intensive Spanish Early Start. (Note: Some US institutions have a credit overload fee if you take over a certain number of credits abroad, so please be aware of the number of credits you plan to take, and ask your home institution if there will be a credit overload fee.)

  • Courses worth 60 contact hours (4 semester credits or 6 quarter units) meet twice weekly for 90 minutes.

  • The optional Intensive Spanish Early Start course meets 6 hours per day, Monday-Friday and is worth 120 contact hours (8 semester credits or 12 quarter units).

  • Classes taken with American and international students.

  • Students who participate in the optional Intensive Spanish Early Start prior to the semester can enroll in either 3, 4, or 5 courses during the semester.

  • Students who enroll only in the semester program must enroll in either 4 or 5 courses.

  • Taking a Spanish Language class is optional but strongly recommended. Beginner Spanish is only offered during the Intensive Spanish Early Start, not during the semester, so a student who has never taken college-level Spanish should consider doing the Intensive Spanish Early Start.

  • An online placement test is required before arrival to determine your Spanish level regardless of your previous coursework. After arrival, you will have an advising session with an academic advisor at the Universidad de Belgrano, who will discuss your course selections and placement test results and make recommendations for the best courses according to your level.

  • Students must have 8 courses approved by their academic advisor in case of changes in course availability or schedule conflicts.

  • Course offerings are subject to change.

To take all your courses from the PEAL offerings, you must test into level Avanzado A on the university’s Spanish placement test. If you test into Intermedio B, you can take up to 2 classes from the PEAL 200-levels, combined with PALAS courses. The placement test is taken online before departure.

If your placement test result is lower than you’d hoped, another way to be able to take PEAL courses is to enroll in the month-long intensive Spanish course (early start). This is a great way to gain a Spanish level.
